MEET OUR FEBRUARY MAKERS…
We are delighted to introduce SevenSeventeen to you all, the makers behind the beautiful candles featured in our February Iggy boxes.
SevenSeventeen Candles was launched in November 2016 on the Sussex coast by two friends and former magazine journalists, Naomi and Sarah.
Their mood boosting, plant based collection is designed to help us find ‘the calm amidst the chaos’ and their name originates from the time of day when Naomi and Sarah often found themselves lighting a candle at the end of a long hard day… 7.17pm.
SevenSeventeen also share our passion for supporting self care and since their journey began, they have already donated an amazing £30,000 to Mental Health charities. They have even recently teamed up with Stacey Solomon to raise money for ‘Pandas Foundation’, a collaboration which sold out in less than an hour!

We are absolutely delighted to be featuring two candles from Seven Seventeen’s beautiful collection, as part of our self care month this February…
Our fruity candle for this month is ‘Shine On’, a rich and uplifting blend of Wild Fig and Grape. It’s fruity and bold fragrance is the perfect partner for giving us that little boost of energy, to spur us on through the day, month and beyond!
Our February floral scent is ‘Beautiful You’, a soft and beautiful blend of White Jasmine. Giving us a little hint that Spring is on the way, it is elegant and perfect for those quiet moments on reflection and inner calm.

Earlier this month, we sat down with Naomi and Sarah, to talk about all things candles and SevenSeventeen…
How long has your brand been going and is it your full time job?
We launched SevenSeventeen just over three years ago in November 2017. At the time we were both freelance magazine journalists and in the beginning we juggled our freelance feature writing and styling jobs with the day-to-day running of our candle business but bit by bit as we grew, we were able to tip the balance and now work full-time on SevenSeventeen.
Where do you make the candles?
We work with a fantastic plant-based wax specialist here in the UK to create candles that are sumptuously-scented and vegan friendly. Sustainability is important to us, our jars are made from recycled glass and the wicks are cotton. Plus we’re really excited to be in the process of swapping our plastic lids to metal, recyclable versions.
What inspired you to start making candles and your brand?
Our brand was born out of the necessity to clock off from the daily chaos. Lighting a beautifully scented candle when you’ve been on your feet all day has always felt like the perfect calming ritual. For us personally, it was about celebrating that golden moment when you finally get the kids snuggled into bed (we have five between us), reclaim your home and feel your sanity levels returning, but the principle is the same for anyone navigating today’s busy, modern world.
We inherited our name from this thinking too with that ‘ahhh’ moment falling somewhere around 7.17pm – on a good day we might add! It also inspired the mantras we’ve paired with each of our fragrances such as Hello Calm in Moroccan rose, And Breathe in lavender and Off Duty in lime basil & mandarin.
What is your passion behind the brand?
Although our brand is intentionally playful in tone (we created the hashtag mykindofmeltdown for instance) we always wanted the candles to help light the way for others struggling on a much bigger scale. As such, all of our products donate a proportion of profits to mental health charities and to date we’ve raised over £30,000 for postnatal depression charity, Pandas Foundation, Sane and CALM, the male suicide prevention charity.
What has been your biggest achievement so far?
We were completely blown away by the support for our recent Stacey Solomon candle collaboration from which we donated 100% of profits to Pandas Foundation. We sold out online within half an hour of launching and went on to raise over £8,000 for the charity. From a wholesale perspective, seeing our products go into all Fenwick department stores nationwide was pretty rewarding.
Do you have a fun fact or anecdote about your brand?
Our kids definitely never go to bed at 7.17 anymore!
Do you have any New Year resolutions or specific Goals in 2020?
We’re both used to grafting from our magazine days but are forever grateful that we have each other to motivate, inspire and push our brand on. This year we really wanted to diversify our offering and are delighted to say we have some exciting new products in the pipeline as well as two awesome collaborations underway, one which will bring about a completely different self-care product for SevenSeventeen, which we can’t wait to share.
