Meet your November Maker
Introducing Emilie and Kate, the founders of Wildflower, established in 2021. Based from their workshop in Cumbria, which is part of an old milking parlour, it has been stripped back and kitted out to establish Wildflower HQ!
From their love of the countryside and luxury scents, they wanted to create a range of products which encapsulated both elements. Natural and honest, synonymous with the unspoilt countryside where they are lucky enough to live.

Our first festive candle of two is housed in a classic clear vessel, featuring a gorgeous gold foiled label, 100% soy wax and a cotton wick.

We present to you ‘A Winters Night’. An inviting aroma reminiscent of a Winter’s Night, this festive aromatic spicy accord welcomes you with citrus orange. As you step inside from the cold evening, the hints of fresh pine bring the outside in, resting on a base of sensual woods and musk. Curl up on an armchair as the notes of rich cinnamon, ginger and clove warm your home.

It’s time to meet you maker
How long has your brand been going/ is it full time or do you do other things?
Wildflower was established in February 2021. We both work full time and focus on Wildflower on weekends!
Where in the UK are you based and what space do you use for your ‘workshop’?
We are based in Cumbria, not too far from the Lake District. Our workshop is part of an old milking parlour which has been stripped back and kitted out to establish Wildflower HQ!
What inspired you to start making candles? Do you have a passion that has been embedded in your brand?
We both absolutely love finding gifts for our family and friends and we sometimes struggled to find a gift that suited our Mum but also our friends. Scents were always something we would gift each other and we are both creatures of habit, once we find something we like, we buy again and again! We really wanted this to be the same with our collection and it definitely is, we have customers who are loyal to one scent and will buy multiple at a time.
What do you love about our featured scent?
This festive aromatic spicy accord opens with citrus orange and lemon followed by rich warm cinnamon, ginger and clove with hints of floral jasmine and fresh pine resting on a base of sensual woods and musk.
The scent is reminiscent of Winter’s Nights ranging from November – January (and beyond). We have customers who burn this scent all year round as well as being their favourite Christmas scent. We love how the scent has a warming element to it without being too in your face, like stepping in from the cold on a Winter’s evening.
There are so many scents you can choose to make…How do you go about choosing for your collection?
Our aim is to blend each scent with outdoor influences. Illustrators, bytillydesign & annakatecards bring our scents to life with the illustrated elements of our packaging and labels. We like our packaging to ‘do the talking’ instead of long scent descriptions!
What has been your proudest moment since starting out?
There have been a few! Securing our first regular stockist a month after we started was probably the moment that gave us the confidence that people love our products as much as we do. We love receiving emails and hearing from our customers about how long their products have lasted too! It may seem small but we try to pack our candles and diffusers with as much longevity and value as we can, so this is a huge compliment to all of our hard work.
Do you have a fun fact or anecdote about your brand?
We had the idea of creating our own business and growing it together, and we have never looked back.
Do you have any specific ambitions or goals for your brand?
We would love to extend our workshop as we’re currently outgrowing it due to lots of packing peanuts and our huge new wax melter! We would love to have one base for making and another for labelling and packaging. Also, to continue working to be our customers’ handcrafted candle company of choice.
Do you have any charitable or environmental partnerships we should know about to share?
We have recently invested in FSC certified packaging for all of our products and we use recyclable tape when shipping our orders. Our business stationery is all made from wildflower seeded paper containing over 20 different British seed mixes and made by an artisan papermill from waste cotton, which can be planted after use.
Is there anything that you believe makes your brand different or stand out?
We’re sure a lot of independent businesses can relate but the fact we know our product inside out. We have spent so long testing and perfecting, tweaking and developing that we can talk about all aspects of the business.
Are there any plans for new products or news over the next few months?
We’re working on making our diffusers refillable. The main vessel will be a lovely piece of homeware, suiting any decor/ style preference which can be refilled throughout the year with the customers favourite scent!
