Meet your March Maker
Introducing Wildrace, based in Colchester, in Essex by founder Jordan. She started with candle making in her parents garage, and has now moved into a new house where she has a dedicated studio. Searching for a passion project, Wildrace became just that. Born from cherished memories of making candles with her dad when she was a little girl and gifting to her Granny for Christmas. Always conscious of being kind to the planet and environment, it was very important for Jordan to uphold these values. Not only is Wildrace Vegan, sustainable and plastic free but she is also partnered with Ecologi and plants a tree for every order.
Wicks in my box
Our first ever candle presented in a silver aluminium tin, with a beautifully designed textured paper label. Containing 100% soy wax and a cotton wick. Sweet and floral, the delightful ‘Cloudy Petals’ offers the aromas of the British garden with freshly cut fragrant roses and just-ripe pears. A soft and honeyed uplifting scent with subtle vanilla and earthy notes of cedar wood and musk.

It’s time to meet your maker
How long has your brand been going?
Wildrace was created in May 2021 but didn’t really become the business it is today until the start of 2022. It then became my full time job in September 2022 when I gave up my career as a Nanny to dedicate myself fully to Wildrace.
Where in the UK are you based and what space do you use for your ‘workshop’?
Wildrace is based in Colchester, Essex. In a little village by the river. Your Wildrace IggyBox was created in my parents garage however since the candles have been shipped I have moved into my new house where the second bedroom is now my dedicated studio.
What inspired you to start making candles? Do you have a passion that has been embedded in your brand?
I used to make candles with my dad when I was a little girl and we would send them to my Granny for Christmas. When I relocated from London in February 2021 I was searching for a passion project, and Wildrace became just that. I had always been interested in the planet and environment, in fact I studied these subjects at school, college and my brief university spell, so it was very important for Wildrace to withhold these values. To be Vegan, sustainable, plastic free and give back.
What do you love about our featured scent?
The scent that I chose for our IggyBox candle is perfect for this time of year. It is fresh and unique. This scent is also currently exclusive to March’s IggyBox and is not available for sale anywhere else.
There are so many scents you can choose to make…How do you go about choosing for your collection?
I order a LOT of samples to find the perfect scents. I can order 20 samples and sometimes not feel it with any of them. It takes a very special scent for me to launch it in a candle. After being in this for a while now I can also predict which oils are going to be more popular, my audience for example LOVES a fresh scent.
What has been your proudest moment since starting out?
My proudest moment is being able to take this full time. I have a lot of health issues and am a sufferer of endometriosis so to grow this businesses from the ground up, alongside surgeries, setbacks and juggling other jobs at the start has been – epic. I’ll forever be proud of this little business and all of the good it provides.
Do you have a fun fact or anecdote about your brand?
Funny now but there were tears shed back then. Last year I purchased a 27L wax boiler and set it up out in the garage, very excited to be able to melt so much wax all at once. I added all the wax flakes into the top, turned it on to melt and headed back indoors to have my breakfast. Around half an hour later I returned to the garage and opening the door the smell hit me. The tap on the boiler was open (on). The entire garage floor (which was carpeted) was covered in around 2 inches of wax. The wax was setting and turning white but wax continued to pour out of the tap as I stood there in shock. I ran through the wax, and turned the tap off. I bawled. I had to buy rubber mats to cover the now oily and waxy flooring as mine and my mums hours of ironing kitchen roll onto the wax, did not fix the situation.
Do you have any specific ambitions or goals for the business?
Each year i’d love to take on more and more retailers, getting out products into each county would be pretty cool, or even stocking somewhere abroad. We have so many more products coming, with new launches nearly every month in 2023.
Do you have any charitable or environmental partnerships we should know about to share?
I am partnered with Ecologi and plant a tree for every order.
Is there anything that you believe makes your brand different or stand out?
I think our products are unique and apart from a few essentials we have mainly entirely unique scents. Our zodiac collection is usually what sets us out from the rest though, with their beautiful colours and designs. Having a luxury brand that also focuses on the planet is what I personally love.
Are there any plans for new products or news over the next few months?
We have some very exciting launches coming this year with my Favourite two launching in late May. Think mocktails in the garden. Sunny morning breakfasts on the patio. Everything about those bliss summer days captured.
