Iggy Box Reveal | March Maker

Welcome to your March box ‘Sundays should come with a pause button’…

Meet Your March Maker

As Spring finally arrives, we are featuring a beautifully fresh scent by LA LUNA and founder Sinead, who hails from the North Coast of Cornwall. The collection created back in 2019 is inspired by the beautiful Cornish landscape, blended, poured and packaged by hand with  a focus on aromas that helps to alleviate stress and tension.

We are in love with La Luna’s meticulously sustainable ethos. All of their candles are vegan friendly, plastic and cruelty free and by partnering with Ecologi… every order plants a new tree too!

Inside your March box, you’ll also find your little something extra…

This month, we have partnered with Caroboo to bring you their Creamy Mint Choco Bar. These chocolatey bars are crammed full of carob, creamed coconut and all of the good stuff nature has to offer!

Co-founders Charlotte and Darran started Caroboo with the aim to create something ridiculously chocolatey, without any dairy or refined sugars, to rival the taste and smoothness of milk chocolate.

Using either organic or sustainably sourced ingredients, all their bars come in beautifully designed home compostable packaging! We can’t get enough and we hope you will love them too!

It’s time to meet the maker! We sat down with Sinead from LA LUNA to talk about her beautiful collection…

How long has your brand been going/ is it full time or do you do other things?

I launched LA LUNA in 2019 after a few years of researching and testing and I’m lucky enough to say this is now my full-time job.

Where in the UK are you based and what space do you use for your ‘workshop’?

Each and every candle is hand-poured, labeled and packed right on the stunning North Coast of Cornwall. From our studio, we can walk to the beach and on occasion if the wind is blowing in the right direction we can hear the waves crashing – bliss.

What inspired you to start making candles? Do you have a passion that has been embedded in your brand?

I have always been interested in the correlation between olfactory sensations and emotion – particularly in the ability for a scent to elevate stress and tension. I have grown up around essential oils both with my mother using them and my grandmother who ran her own business making skincare products – there was nothing her comfrey cream couldn’t fix! I started creating and using my own blends which eventually led me to making candles.

What do you love about our featured scent?

Inspired by sunny Sunday mornings as we welcome in Spring, Sunday is a wonderfully fresh floral blend of freesia, jasmine and lily. I love its uplifting accords which pay homage to the vibrant freesia flower, a classic springtime favourite.

There are so many scents you can choose to make…How do you go about choosing for your collection?

I like scents that have depth and character but ultimately testing is key to choosing fragrances. I also consider the seasons, finding that floral, citrusy scents work better in the spring/summer and earthy, deeper scents in the autumn/winter. However, a huge amount of planning goes into finding and testing scents so I’m often testing Christmas scents in July!

What has been your proudest moment since starting out?

That would have to be stocking in some wonderful independent stores up and down the country. LA LUNA is stocked in around 20 independent shops and boutiques and not only am I really proud to be on the shelves of stores I admire, but I get to work with the wonderful people that run them.

Do you have a fun fact or anecdote about your brand?

Contrary to popular belief, candle making is not an easy craft to master. It has taken me years to develop the skills I now possess and there is so much more to candle making than most people realise. It’s a real science!

If we change a single element, for example, the vessel, wax or fragrance, months of testing is needed to ensure the candle is performing as it should. All of our candles are cured for a minimum of two weeks. This is a crucial step as it allows the wax and fragrance to fully bind.

Do you have any specific ambitions or goals for La Luna?

I would like to continue growing the business by developing new products and working with more independent stores. I love doing collaborations with other small businesses and would like to do more of these! I also want to branch into homeware, and I plan to employ some lovely people to help in the studio!

Do you have any charitable or environmental partnerships we should know about to share?

This year we are partnering with Ecologi so with every sale we will plant a tree. We also plan to get involved with charities fighting plastic pollution in the ocean.

Is there anything that you believe makes your brand different or stand out?

We are a completely plastic-free business and all of our materials and packaging can either biodegrade or be recycled. From our soy wax which is ethically harvested, free from GM materials and biodegradable, to our potato starch foam fillers and aluminium gold lids! Our candles are made in Cornwall right next to the sea too! They couldn’t come from a more beautiful, special place.

Are there any plans for new products or news over the next few months?

Yes, we have a few new scents up our sleeves and some new refill options which I’m excited to share. Watch this space!

We hope you enjoy your third Iggy Box of the month! So sit back and embrace that wonderful Sunday feeling, take it slow and breathe in those fresh and floral aromas… Happy burning, Iggy Boxers!
