It’s time to meet your maker
Where in the UK are you based and what space do you use for your ‘workshop’?
I am based in Northampton and initially started making candles at home in our dining room. We now have a workshop studio in Dallington, Northampton.
What inspired you to start making candles? Do you have a passion that has been embedded in your brand?
I have always been a lover of candles but always saved burning them for ‘best’. The inspiration came in lockdown where I suddenly had the chance to try something new. I was looking for something to keep me sane during the pandemic and had a candle making kit in the house so decided to give candle making a try. I fell in love with the process almost instantly.
Having two young children myself my main focus has always been to ensure our brand provides clean burning scents in the home and remains a sustainable business
What do you love about our featured scent?
Fireside has always been a favourite scent of mine and is featured in our ‘Man-dle’ collection. What I love about this fragrance its fresh and cosy at the same time, it has warm notes of musk and amber also coupled with fresh citrus notes such as lemon and bergamot, perfect for this time of year.
There are so many scents you can choose to make…How do you go about choosing for your collection?
I always try to go for a mixture of scents that will appeal to everyone but also scents that will transport you to somewhere else the moment its lit, whether it’s to the Mediterranean with Amalfi coast or to the Caribbean with our Coconut & Lime or for pure relaxation with our Slumber scent.
What has been your proudest moment since starting out?
We have a few proud moments from having our first pop up store in John Lewis within the first year of business, to being featured in Vogue magazine last year. But our proudest moments are always when we receive lovely feedback from our customers on how much they enjoy our wooden wick candles and the crackle sound as it burns
Do you have a fun fact or anecdote about your brand?
Our business name is named after my two daughters Alyssa & Avaya
Do you have any specific ambitions or goals for the business?
Our goal in the next year is to provide candle re-fills and to hopefully have our very own candle boutique shop.
Do you have any charitable or environmental partnerships we should know about to share?
All our packaging is fully recyclable down to our packing peanuts which easily dissolves in water. We always encourage our customers to re-purpose their candle vessels once the candle has finished.
Is there anything that you believe makes your brand different or stand out?
We thoroughly test all our products before they are made for production, our scents are vegan friendly and free from parabens.
Are there any plans for new products or news over the next few months?
Feel free to add any other information you would like us to share with our subscribers…
This year we are working on providing candle and diffuser refills and hopefully expanding our range to room sprays and car diffusers. We would also love to have a few UK stockists, but our main focus is to continue to keep working on our brand awareness.
So there you have it, February’s box revealed! This months opulent array of calming and smooth notes thaws our winter chill, as we recline and hear the comforting crackle and untangle our stresses… Happy burning Iggy Boxers!
