Here at Iggy Box, we want you to get the most out of your candles, so here are our top 5 tips on how you can maximise their burn time and keep them smelling beautiful around your home for as long as possible…

Burn Duration

We recommend that you always burn your candles for at least 2 hours at a time. This is really important because it will stop something knowing as ‘tunnelling’. Tunnelling is when the wax doesn’t melt all the way to the edge and effectively creates a tunnel inside the jar. Once a tunnel has formed, it is really difficult to get the unburnt wax around the edge to melt again, which means that precious wax will be wasted and your candle wont last as long.

Location

Where you place your candle within your home is also very important. Candles should always be placed in areas with as little draft as possible. This is because drafts increase the flow of oxygen, causing the flame to flicker, which creates an uneven and quicker burn. If you can’t avoid drafts, then just remember to turn your candle frequently to try to maximise an even burn.

Wick Care

The wick is the heart of your candle and it is critical to how it burns. The longer a candle’s wick, the bigger the flame and the faster it will burn. For this reason, it is very important to trim your wick. Make sure you trim in-between each use and while your candle is not lit. We recommend you keep your wick trimmed to a maximum of 5mm. Did you know that you can even buy specific ‘wick trimmers’ to help you keep your wicks in check?

Interior Styling

We know that lots of candles together make a cosy environment, but to increase your burn time, it is best to avoid putting a candle within 10 metres of another candle. Any closer and the candles may disrupt each other’s oxygen supply and also potentially increase in temperature. Both of these things would cause your candle to burner faster and also more unevenly.

Putting Your Candle Out

We know that most of us blow our candles out, however doing this can cause melted wax to disperse unevenly or even sometimes spatter out of the jar. The solution to this…. a candle snuffer! Candle snuffers are great and not only will they ensure we don’t lose any wax, but they will also keep our wicks upright and avoid them getting buried in melted wax or moving off centre.

So thats it, our ‘Top 5 Tips for Maximising Your Candles Burn Time’. We hope that these tips will help you get the most of your candles each month.
