Get creative with heights and sizes. Undoubtedly, this is a simplistic tip but the impact is huge as it prevents a space from becoming one-dimensional and flat. A few ideas for mixing it up would be to vary your candles, opting for a variation of tealights, candle jars and candlesticks. Another thing to consider is filling your space with vases and plant pots or florals. These are all genius for creating impact with size and scale and also adding that pop of colour too.

If you’re looking to add depth and interest to your display, opt for a contrast of textures. To us, textures are high on the priority list of what the perfect ‘shelfie’ consists of. You don’t have to stick to usual textures like rugs and cushions to create impact, instead opt for textural objects of interest. Good examples would be accents of glass, wood or natural materials such as stone.

Once you have your chosen objects, the next step is to actually ‘style’ the pieces of your shelf. One of our favourite styling tips for curating the display is to work in odd numbers. Have you ever heard of the ‘rule of three’ when it comes to interior design? That’s because odd numbers are thought to be more appealing, memorable and effective than even-numbered groupings. The best way to stick to this rule would be to think in ones, threes and fives when styling.

Make it personal

Often when creating the perfect shelfie, your mind is in complete ‘styling-mode’. Don’t forget to add some personal touches to make it have that homely detail. Add what makes you happy!
